Art Carrington is creator of "Royalty of the Colored Court", An exhibition, talk and tennis demonstration.

The Exhibition
Arthur Carrington, a graduate of Hampton University, tennis champion, and practice partner to Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson is an archivist and historian of Black Tennis.  His exhibition, "Royalty of the Colored Court," chronicles the history of the sport from 1890 to present.

The exhibit shows rarely seen material on Black-owned tennis and country clubs and tells the story of the early beginnings of the American Tennis Association (ATA), the oldest Black sports organization in America.

The successful careers of Althea Gibson and Arthur Ashe are also highlighted in the exhibit, and illustrate the significance of the ATA to the sport.

The exhibit includes examples from Carrington's own private collection of archival newspaper articles and rare photographs.

"Royalty of the Colored Court," can be mounted on walls or panels, and customized to space configurations.

The Talk
Arthur Carringotn lived much of the story told in the exhibition.  He came up through a private Black tennis club in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  His tournament and coaching experiences and his professional relationship with Arthur Ashe, Althea gibson, and their coaches, and his rich collection of archival information provide the content for the dynamic, informative talk, that supplements the exhibition.
